Wednesday 12th April 2006 - 3:51:21 PM
By Louise Chan
Approximately 1,000 fans (we prepared 870 white candles and they were all distributed and many were left without the white candles) waited quietly and patiently for the candlelight vigil held at Jardine House podium in Central on 1st April, 2006
When started, each fan was given a candle in a white paper cup, a program/lyrics leaflet and a yellow coupon. At the entrance of the vigil, there placed 3 charity boxes from ORBIS for collection of donations to support our charity campaign which features the sale of a DVD set “Gor Gor”. Fans proceeded gradually to the stage where a sea of flowers sent by local and overseas fans lined along and on both sides of the stage. Fans took time to take shots with the flowers and of course, most importantly, with Leslie appeared on the backdrop of the stage wearing an easy and sweet smile overlooking all who were present at the vigil.
CY from Radio HK addressed the beginning of the ceremony, followed by Hon Yeung (song writer) singing the tender loving remembrance song “Gor Gor”. When the clock ticked 6:41, all fans remained silent for a minute prayer. After the prayer, fans with yellow coupons queued up for exchanging a glass candle to light up the 6 letters of Leslie on the backdrop of the stage. This 2nd candle was a glass filled up with yellowish jelly wax and a heart-shaped ornament planted at the middle symbolizing a flame in our hearts to remember our beloved Leslie.
It was a very touching and unforgettable moment when LESLIE’s name was lit up by fans who will remember Gor Gor forever.
The song “Gor Gor” was once again filled up the air softly and tenderly flowing through the ears into every heart of the fans.
The close of the candlelight vigil was announced but this embarks a new mission of a fund-raising campaign to run till September when Leslie at his 50th birthday gathering is to be held at HKCEC on 10 September.
A hot news to share is that we have raised HK$8,601.40 at the candlelight vigil. Our bank account for this fund-raising campaign is in operation. Current figure of the funds raised is to be announced from time to time. For details, please visit www.leslielegacy.com, or at ORBIS’ website: ORBIS (Chinese) ORBIS (English)
It is our goal to raise $500,000 as a birthday gift to be presented to ORBIS in the name of Leslie at the September 50th birthday gathering.
Your support to fulfill this goal is greatly needed and appreciated. We will continue the charity spirit of Leslie and pledge to do all we can to reach our goal. |
